Tree 10-15 m high, the trunk 20-25 cm in diameter, with light brown bark and soft, white wood. Branchlets subterete, smooth, glabrous, brownish-green, the internodes long, only the terminal one compressed. Buds and very young opening leaves minutely ochraceous-strigose. Stipules geminate, very small, triangular-oblong, acute, 1.0-1.5 m long, soon deciduous. Leaves opposite, 1-4(-5)-jugate, very large, long-petiolate; axis 30-75 cm long, subterete, slightly striolate, narrowly sulcate above, more or less minutely, almost inconspicuously puberulous with very minute (0.05-0.10 mm long) acute, patulous or subpatulous yellowish trichomes more abundant toward the end and in the furrows, sparse toward the petiole, the interjuga 6-11 cm long, the petiole robust, glabrate, 20-40 cm long; stipels geminate, broadly corniculate, 1.0-1.5 mm long. Leaflets thinly coriaceous, large; petiolules rather robust, sulcate above, 8-15 mm long, the terminal one 28-55 cm long; blades 17-28 cm long, 8.0-13.5 cm wide, oblong-elliptic or oblong-ovate, rounded and asymmetric at the base, the terminal cuneate and symmetric, attenuate and acuminate at the apex, coarsely double-dentate-serrate, the small, callose, ascendant teeth 8-15 mm apart; green or dark green, when dry brownish-green; the midrib flat above, very conspicuous, sparsely and minutely strigulose, in part glabrous, the secondary nerves impressed, very conspicuous with an angle of divergence 45°-60°, the tertiary transversal nerves also conspicuous; whitish-green or almost white in vivo beneath, the costa thick and protuberant, the prominent secondary nerves 14-19 on each side, 8-18 mm apart, ascendent, parallel, curving near the margin, the tertiary nerves parallel, transversal, also prominent, the minor veins united into a conspicuous, more or less prominulous reticulum, the flat areoles densely whitish-papillose and with sparse, minute, acute, patulous hairs, the nervation minutely pilose with copious minute, acute, rather patulous or ascending hairs (0.05-0.10 mm long). Panicles axillary, large, long-pedunculate, 30-60 cm long and broad; peduncle robust, subterete, reddish-greenish, 12-22 cm long, glabrous or with very sparse, minute strigae; primary branching (usually subglabrate) trichotomous, the following usually dichotomous, repeatedly dividing, both spreading and ascending into a large floriferous but rather lax inflorescence, the terminal branchlets or peduncles one-flowered; branchlets thin, angular, striate, copiously and minutely strigulose or substrigulose, the hairs subappressed, acute, minute.
